Itasca, IL (January 7, 2019) - Discovery Health Partners is joining forces with Chicago-based Button & Zipper to collect 500 coats for a post-holiday coat drive the week of January 7-11, 2019.
Discovery is collecting coats for men, women, and children, emphasizing that need and homelessness impact all ages at all times throughout the year. The coats will be distributed to local schools and charitable organizations that register with and are vetted through the Button & Zipper application process.
“Once the holidays end, we find donations decline just as the weather turns colder and need increases,” states Ira Colman, founder and president of Button & Zipper. “Additionally, when school resumes after the break and winter temperatures worsen, we find that we are flooded with new inquiries from schools and shelters that support those most in need.”
Discovery is accepting donations of new and gently-used items at their Itasca headquarters locations. Button & Zipper considers “gently used” to be a coat that you would lend to a friend or let your child wear to school.

When Button & Zipper explained how important it was to Chicago-area schools and shelters to have access to new and gently used coats after the holidays, we were glad to step up and encourage our employees and others in the western and northwestern suburbs to continue the giving season.”
Arlington Heights-based Imperial Surveillance, a Button & Zipper partner, will be providing logistics for picking up and delivering the coats once the coat drive is done.
