Chapel Hill, NC (November 13, 2018) - The Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, in partnership with Infinia ML, an advanced machine learning company that delivers transformative automation solutions and data science to enterprise businesses, will host a cross-sector symposium on Friday, Nov. 30 to advance the field of machine learning. Academic and business leaders will come together with students to connect the possibilities of cutting-edge ML research with the realities of practical implementation.

The Kenan Institute and Infinia ML are founding partners of Rethinc. ML, a collaboration between academia and industry to devise real-world business use cases for machine learning. The full-day Rethinc. Machine Learning Symposium, held at the Kenan Center in Chapel Hill, will launch the partnership. Featured speakers include RTI Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Michael Kaelin, Axiom Chief Technology Officer Doug Hebenthal, IBM Managing Partner Jesus Mantas and Infinia ML Chief Scientist Larry Carin.

“From automatically analyzing contracts to identifying financial irregularities to assessing security threats, machine learning is changing the way business is done across nearly every industry,” said Greg Brown, director of the Kenan Institute. “That’s why, in partnership with Infinia ML, we’re excited to explore these emerging opportunities and leverage the potential of machine learning.”
Infinia ML Chief Executive Officer Robbie Allen, who teaches Machine Learning: Strategy and Execution at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, will serve as Rethinc. ML’s research fellow. In addition, leaders from Infinia ML will be advising the Kenan-Flagler community on implementing machine learning and artificial intelligence in business.

“Collaboration between academia and industry is essential to our company and the machine learning community,” said Allen. “ML is advancing at lightning speed, and we’re excited to join with the Kenan Institute to help it move ahead even faster.”
