How did the company get started?
Veritas Prime was founded after SAP acquired SuccessFactors in 2012, which marked a major turning point in the HR technology industry. My cofounders and I were in HR consulting at the time and recognized that the market was shifting rapidly from on-premise software to cloud-based platforms. Traditional consulting firms were struggling to adapt to the new cloud mindset. We saw this as an opportunity to build a more agile, modern consulting organization designed specifically for the evolving ecosystem. The company officially launched in 2014 with the goal of becoming a premier SAP-focused HR and payroll consulting partner.
Looking at the evolving HR and payroll landscape, what major shifts are you seeing in how organizations approach transformation today?
The migration from on-premise systems to cloud technology remains an important trend, particularly in payroll, but customer expectations have evolved significantly. Organizations now want payroll, time, and HR systems to operate as a fully integrated experience rather than as disconnected functions. Employees increasingly expect transparency and self-service capabilities. AI is central to this transformation. The industry is moving toward more intelligent, automated, and conversational experiences that simplify HR and payroll interactions for both employers and employees. The next phase is not just digitization, but intelligent orchestration across the entire employee lifecycle.
What drove Veritas Prime’s expansion beyond traditional implementation services into a broader Business Process as-a Service (BPaaS) and managed services model? How has it positioned the company for long-term growth?
Originally Veritas Prime focused on software implementation services, which remains a critical part of the business. However, implementation work can be cyclical and difficult to scale predictably. We recognized the importance of diversifying revenue streams while also deepening relationships with customers. This led us to expand into BPaaS and managed services, particularly in payroll and benefits administration. Customers were already asking Veritas Prime for additional support beyond implementation, so the expansion was a natural extension of trusted client relationships.
The BPaaS model also created more recurring revenue and a more sustainable long-term business foundation. Today, the company is increasingly positioning itself not simply as a consulting firm, but as a technology-enabled payroll and HR services provider.
How do you see AI reshaping the future of HR, payroll, and enterprise operations, and what role will Veritas Prime play in helping customers adopt AI?
AI is evolving beyond basic conversational productivity assistants into ‘agentic AI’, a proactive digital coworker capable of independently executing tasks, automating complex workflows, and driving true operational efficiency.Veritas Prime has approached AI adoption in two stages.
- First, the company is transforming its own delivery model by embedding AI into implementation, configuration, testing, software development, and operational processes. The goal is to improve efficiency, increase quality, and reduce human error. We have even created an internal AI council composed of leaders from across sales, operations, consulting, and software development to drive innovation internally.
- Second, we are taking that experience to help customers optimize AI within their own organizations. That includes helping HR teams automate recruiting, onboarding, payroll processes, compliance activities, and employee communications.
We find that customers increasingly need strategic guidance on how to apply AI effectively because the technology is evolving faster than most organizations can absorb.
As CEO, how do you balance rapid growth with preserving company culture and delivering consistent client outcomes?
We see AI as a growth accelerator, but also as a quality enhancer. We develop our own technology-enabled payroll and tax solutions, while also using AI-assisted software development to increase productivity, allowing the company to grow faster without sacrificing service quality.
AI-driven automation helps standardize processes, identify issues earlier, and reduce manual errors. However, we also recognize the importance of human relationships. While AI can improve efficiency, it cannot replace trust, partnership, and human interactions. The company culture continues to center on people, collaboration, and client service, even as the business leverages AI to scale.
What were your priorities for a private equity partner?
The company spent 18 months evaluating private equity firms before partnering with Carrick Capital Partners. We knew we needed more than capital. We wanted a partner who understood the HR and payroll ecosystem and shared our long-term vision.
Most firms did not understand the market opportunity or the company’s strategy. In fact, we were close to pausing the entire process because it was eating up resources without delivering results. Once Carrick entered the conversation they immediately stood out because of their experience investing in HR technology companies and their understanding of the SAP payroll ecosystem. There was immediate alignment around the opportunity to help modernize and disrupt payroll services within SAP environments.
How has Carrick helped prepare you for the next chapter, and what are the benefits of working with a group like Carrick Capital Partners?
Carrick has brought both operational discipline and strategic perspective. After more than a decade as a founder-led business with no outside investors, we wanted experienced advisors who could challenge the team and help accelerate growth.
Carrick has contributed guidance around sales strategy, pricing models, growth investment, and long-term positioning. The introduction of formal board governance and operational structure has also helped mature the business.
We see the partnership less as a financial transaction and more about adding experienced coaches to the team who can help the company achieve its goals and scale faster.
What is your advice for other growing businesses considering private equity?
They should view private equity as a growth partnership rather than an equity transaction. While founders may initially hesitate to dilute ownership, the right partner can help a company grow faster and ultimately create significantly more value.
The competitive environment created by AI is changing the economics of growth and for many organizations it is increasing the importance of a private equity partnership. Businesses can no longer operate with a small-scale mindset. AI is making it easier for new entrants to launch and scale quickly, which means incumbents must move aggressively to stay competitive.
What is your vision for the future of Veritas Prime, and how does AI factor into your long-term strategy?
Veritas Prime’s long-term vision is to evolve beyond its image as a consulting company. While consulting remains an important part of the business, the company increasingly sees its future in payroll, benefits, BPaaS services, and AI-enabled HR transformation.
The convergence of AI, SAP innovation, strong market positioning, and strategic investment has created a rare growth opportunity over the next several years. We want to create a broader partner ecosystem to leverage these conditions, rather than compete directly with every consulting firm in the SAP market. The goal is to become a trusted platform and services partner that other firms can collaborate with.
