William H. Frist, MD

Special Advisor

Senator Bill Frist is both a nationally recognized heart and lung transplant surgeon and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader. He is a partner and chairman of Cressey & Company’s Executive Council. Dr. Frist represented Tennessee in the U.S. Senate for 12 years where he served on both the Health and Finance committees and was responsible for writing health legislation.

He was elected Majority Leader of the Senate, having served fewer total years in Congress than any person chosen to lead that body in history. His leadership was instrumental in passage of the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act to provide prescription drugs at lower costs to seniors and the historic legislation (PEPFAR), that reversed the spread of HIV/AIDS worldwide.

Dr. Frist serves on the boards of publicly-traded companies AECOM, Select Medical Corporation, and Teladoc, as well as on the boards of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, and the Kaiser Family Foundation. He is a co-founder of Aspire Health, the country’s largest non-hospice, community-based palliative care organization. Frist serves as an adjunct professor of Cardiac Surgery at Vanderbilt University and clinical professor of Surgery at Meharry Medical College. Additionally, he serves on Accolade’s board and is an advisor to Instamed.
